First Time’s a Charm: Nolan’s Big Catch in Plymouth Harbor

At WH Cornerstone, we believe that great financial planning starts with strong relationships—and that includes the ones we build as a team. Recently, we took a break from spreadsheets and strategy sessions to soak up a bit of summer on the water.

Our mini staff outing brought together a few of the WHC team—Cody Wright, Bill Harris, and Nolan Melo—for a morning of fishing in beautiful Plymouth Harbor. And for one of us, it was a day of firsts.

Nolan’s First Fishing Trip… and the Day’s Biggest Win

This was Nolan’s very first time fishing, but you wouldn’t have guessed it. With some beginner’s luck (and maybe a bit of natural talent), he reeled in the only two keepers of the day! The rest of us had a great time cheering him on—and maybe taking a few notes.

But the story didn’t end at the dock.

After our day on the water, Nolan brought his striped bass home, where it became the centerpiece of a shared family meal. Using this recipe, he and his family prepared a simple but delicious dish that turned his “big catch” into an even bigger connection. What started as a work outing turned into a memory made around the dinner table—laughter, storytelling, and a meal enjoyed together.

Here is what the final result looked like:

Why It Matters

While we spend most of our time helping clients plan for their future, days like these remind us of something important: this is what it’s all about. The joy of the moment. The connection between colleagues. The family meals that follow a job well done.

Whether it’s catching the big one—or simply enjoying time together—we’re proud of the culture we’re building at WH Cornerstone. One that values experiences, celebrates teamwork, and embraces the kind of richness in life that no balance sheet can quantify.

Because in the end, it's not just about the fish. It’s about who you share it with.
