Families are our lifeblood. They are the nature and nurture that influence who we become. They inform our values and opinions and give us roots. And they are complicated. As our families evolve, so do our roles. We are daughters, sisters, cousins, and aunts, spouses and ex-spouses, in-laws, mothers, grandmothers and widows. And we are matriarchs.
When it’s your time to provide guidance, pass down traditions and lead your family, how will you shape your loved ones’ possibilities? It can help to learn how famous family matriarchs shared their wisdom and created their legacies.
We invite you to join us for our upcoming “Embracing Your Inner Matriarch” Zoom webinar with Susan Turnbull on October 26, 2021 from 6:00-7:15 pm EST. This program is a lively exploration of what it means to be a matriarch, and the rich rewards of finding your own brand of personal leadership in your family, no matter where you sit on the family tree.
Susan is founder and Principal of Personal Legacy Advisors. A professional writer and speaker, her presentations, tools and services are known for a uniquely personal and practical focus on the qualitative aspects of estate, financial and philanthropic planning.
She is the author of The Wealth of Your Life: A Step-by-Step Guide for Creating Your Ethical Will, co-author of Across Generations: A Five Step Guide for Creating an Expression of Donor Intent, creator of Life Legacy Cards and the Life Legacy Conversations Tool, all designed for those who agree that wealth transferred to future generations has both tangible and intangible dimensions.
Barbara Bush, matriarch, was both wife and mother of a president and mother to two governors. She emphasized helping others and had a passion for promoting literacy. She published books on the topic and founded the Barbara Bush Foundation for Family Literacy. It continues to be a family affair as her daughter, Doro Bush Koch and grandson, Jeb Bush, Jr., currently serve on its board.
Her focus on literacy may have influenced her oldest son, George’s, choice for a spouse, as his wife, Laura Bush, was a former school teacher and librarian who also promoted literacy as first lady and established the National Book Festival.
“Never lose sight of the fact that the most important yardstick of your success will be how you treat other people – your family, friends, and coworkers, and even strangers you meet along the way.” –Barbara Bush
