Widowhood is difficult enough without the added stress of deciphering finances. In honor of National Widows Day, WH Cornerstone will be hosting an hour-long ‘Social Security for Widows’ Zoom webinar featuring Social Security maven Marcia Mantell, RMA®. The webinar will empower you to make informed decisions to get the most you can from Social Security, as well as take some of the mystery out of this complex yet critical income source. Marcia will take us through a variety of situations that are unique to widows, and will lay out important steps to take before claiming your survivor benefit or your own benefit.

We encourage you to bring your Social Security statement, in addition to any questions. Marcia will answer them during a Q&A following the presentation.

As a special gift for joining, attendees will receive a free copy of Marcia’s latest book, What’s the Deal with Social Security for Women. Her book helps women (and men) understand what goes into their benefit, how and why it works, and how claiming it is a critical financial decision. Marcia also features a dozen real women who are in different life situations and explains how they have grappled with making the decisions around their Social Security benefit.

“When a wealthier woman becomes a widow, her tax bracket can increase substantially — she can jump up two, three or more IRMAA brackets [Income Related Monthly Adjusted Amount]. It’s shocking! A widow’s tax rate may well go up significantly in the year after her husband dies because she will now be filing taxes as an individual and no longer jointly.”  –Marcia Mantell

International Widow’s Day, (Wednesday, June 23, 2021) is an awareness day that is observed throughout the world to discuss the hardships that widows face when their husbands die. Apart from this international day, National Widows’ Day is also observed on the 3rd of May every year in the United States. Whether it is National Widows’ Day or International Widows’ Day, both days are designated to highlight the problems of widows and encourage people to help widows in struggling against the challenges of life.
